Stowmarket’s Twinning Connection with Verneuil-Sur-Avre – A Fantastic Cultural Exchange

As part of the special twinning relationship between Stowmarket and the French town of Verneuil-Sur-Avre, Langham Manor and Résidence Maurice Juillet have proudly launched a meaningful letter exchange between our two care homes. We got the ball rolling last year by sending our first letter to the residence.

In the meantime, on 19th April, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming members of the French twinning committee to Langham Manor for a delightful afternoon. In true British style, we hosted our guests with hot beverages, homemade cake, and a range of classic treats—including a selection of red and white wines, a fresh fruit platter, and a stunning cake titled The Tree of Life, lovingly created by our talented Chef Clare. It was a showstopper and thoroughly admired by all!

We also served locally brewed beers from Greene King, based just down the road in Bury St Edmunds, along with some special gifts from the Suffolk Brewery—an extra taste of our local flavour for our visitors to enjoy.

A few of our residents popped down to the bistro to say hello, enjoy a chat, and share a glass of wine with our French guests. It was a heart-warming scene, full of laughter and connection.

Among the visiting group were the Chair of the French town committee and several fellow members. One of them, Gigi, was so touched by a personalised postcard we had made that she shed a few happy tears. The group was especially taken by a beautiful handmade doll—crafted from scratch by our very own resident Julie—which they affectionately named Nancy.

Our home made quite the impression! Our brilliant tour guide Natasha wowed the guests with her enthusiasm and knowledge, and Rachaid even said he’d happily move in! They were particularly impressed by our traditional red postbox, the charming vegetable patch, and even enjoyed a relaxing moment in our in-house cinema.

Before leaving, the group excitedly took a copy of our newsletter—now officially going international! They couldn’t wait to share it, along with the gifts and memories from their visit, with everyone back at Résidence Maurice Juillet.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the committee members who attended. It was a truly special celebration of friendship, culture, and care—an afternoon that the entire Langham Manor community will treasure.

We look forward to nurturing this lovely connection with Résidence Maurice Juillet and creating many more memories and friendships across the Channel.
